5 Beautiful Locations for Family Photography on the Sunshine Coast

Choosing the right location can make such a difference to the look and feel of your photographs. Fortunately, we are spoilt for choice, with beautiful beaches, peaceful parks, greenery and spectacular coastal scenery all within easy reach.

Golden Beach

Golden Beach is a wonderful choice for families who want a relaxed coastal feel without necessarily having the crashing waves and busier atmosphere of an ocean beach.

The calmer water and quieter surroundings can create a beautiful backdrop for family portraits, particularly later in the day when the light becomes softer and the sun begins to set.

It’s a lovely location for photographs of the whole family together as well as those spontaneous moments between parents and children. The combination of water, sand and warm evening light gives Golden Beach family photographs a wonderfully relaxed Sunshine Coast feel.

Keith Hill Park

For families who prefer greenery rather than a beach setting, Keith Hill Park is one of my favourite locations for a relaxed family photography session.

The established trees, open grassy areas and natural greenery provide plenty of variety for family portraits. The softer natural background also helps keep the attention firmly on your family while giving children space to move around and have fun.

It’s particularly lovely for families who want a timeless, natural feel to their photographs without sand and water. The combination of trees, filtered light and open space gives us plenty of opportunities for both beautifully posed portraits and relaxed candid moments.

Pelican Waters

Living and working on the Sunshine Coast means I’m fortunate to have beautiful family photography locations close to home, and Pelican Waters offers some lovely natural settings away from the busier beaches.

Trees, greenery and open spaces provide a relaxed backdrop where families can simply enjoy being together. It’s particularly suited to younger children who appreciate having room to move, explore and play while I capture those natural interactions.

For families wanting a quieter setting with a distinctly local Sunshine Coast feel, Pelican Waters can be a beautiful alternative to a traditional beach session.

Shelly Beach

For families who love a more natural coastal setting, Shelly Beach offers a beautiful combination of ocean, sand, rocks and rock pools that can create something a little different for your family photographs.

The rocky shoreline adds texture and interest to the background, while the rock pools can produce beautiful reflections when the conditions are right. There are plenty of opportunities for children to explore and for families to interact naturally, which helps create relaxed photographs rather than overly posed portraits.

Shelly Beach is particularly beautiful in the softer light of early morning or later in the afternoon. With the ocean behind you and the changing colours and textures along the shoreline, it’s a wonderful location for families wanting photographs with a distinctly Sunshine Coast coastal feel.

Point Cartwright

Point Cartwright is a beautiful choice for families who love the coast but prefer somewhere with plenty of open space and a little more variety than a traditional beach setting.

With its combination of beach, rocks and natural coastal scenery, there are plenty of different backgrounds to work with during a family photography session. The open spaces also give children room to move, explore and simply be themselves while we capture those genuine family interactions.

One of the things I particularly enjoy about Point Cartwright is that it can feel less busy than some of the Sunshine Coast’s better-known beach locations. That can make it easier for families to relax, forget about the camera and enjoy spending time together.

From relaxed photographs on the beach to beautiful portraits amongst the rocks, Point Cartwright offers plenty of opportunities to create natural family photographs with that unmistakable Sunshine Coast feel.
